Designing and Prototyping Continuous Media File System on Clustered Workstations
نویسندگان
چکیده
The widespread acceptance of multimedia application has stimulated the development of multimedia server and its le system to guarantee the real-time requirement of continuous media streams. We designed and prototyped a continuous media le system on top of clustered workstations, called Crown(Clustered resources on workstations' network). Its le system, CrownFS, guarantees glitch-less streams to many clients at the same time. We protototyped it to nd bottleneck points of Crown in advance of the implementation.

Integrating Security in FreeLoader Distributed File System
FreeLoader is a high performance read-dominant distributed file system that utilizes free disk space on desktop workstations. The system is designed for maximum scalability and high connectivity by taking into account the write-once-readmany property of specific use cases. While still in the prototyping stage, FreeLoader security has not been addressed until recently. In this work we develop a ...
متن کاملTiger Shark- a Scalable File System
Tiger Shark is a scalable, parallel file system designed to support interactive multimedia applications, particularly large-scale ones such as interactive television (ITV). Tiger Shark runs under the IBM AIX@ operating system, on machines ranging from RS/6000'" desktop workstations to the SP2@ parallel supercomputer. In addition to supporting continuous-time data, Tiger Shark provides scalabili...
متن کاملExperience of Adaptive Replication in Distributed File Systems
Replication is a key strategy for improving locality, fault tolerance and availability in distributed systems. The paper focuses on distributed file systems and presents a system to transparently manage file replication through a network of workstations sharing the same distributed file system. The system integrates an adaptive file replication policy that is capable of reacting to changes in t...
متن کاملPFSLib – An I/O Interface for Parallel Programming Environments on Coupled Workstations
In this paper we discuss the design and implementation of an I/O interface for parallel programming environments on clusters of workstations. The PFSLib library offers the functionality of Intel’s parallel file system PFS and is intended to be used for parallel applications using PVM or other messagepassing libraries for workstation clusters. An example of a simple parallel matrix-vector-multip...
متن کاملAvailability and Consistency Tradeoffs in the Echo Distributed File System
Workstations typically depend on remote servers accessed over a network for such services as mail, printing, storing files, booting, and time. The availability of these remote services has a major impact on the usability of the workstation. Availability can be increased by replicating the servers. In the Echo distributed file system at DEC SRC, two different replication techniques are employed,...
